My Twisted Writer Brain…

Farewell to 2019

I can’t say that I’m sorry to see 2019 go. With the likes of Trump and Trudeau, the year was one of negativity and ugliness. I’m tired of the name-calling, the petty gripes, and witnessing grown men in powerful positions make excuses and not own up to their shortcomings. I don’t care for politics and for the most part turn away in favor of other fictional characters that can be more likable and equally entertaining.

This year was a good year. I completed my second full-length novel and am now working through a book proposal for a non-fiction project that will prove to be very exciting once contracted. I do not doubt the validity of the project but in the interim, there’s a lot of work that needs to be done and that will be a priority for 2020.

Before the end of this year, I want to do all the book reviews I’ve been putting off. I’ve also written down all the details for the four fiction writing contests I want to enter in the new year. It would be nice to place in all of them but we’ll see.

Within the last year, I feel like I didn’t work as hard or as focused as I could have and I’d like to change that up for the new year. I’m a firm believer that the only difference between a dream and a goal is a timeline. I need to look at the calendar and put in some firm goals. Time goes by so quickly that I don’t want to all of a sudden wake-up and find that it’s June 2020 and I’ve done nothing of any substance. That type of snoozy behavior and withdrawal into nowhere land is so easy to fall into–been there, done that–not this year. I see huge success in my coming year and I want to be able to stand behind it.

Wishing everyone, everywhere, a very Happy and Healthy New Year. Let’s bring on 2020 and conquer it one day at a time.

  1. hey, send me your writers digest short story!~ and what’s the status with novel one and novel two??? keep going. Love your posts but they are an excuseeeee to produce instant response…..can’t those come out less often while you have a huge goal (s ) ahead? just sayin… xo

    1. Happy New Year Mindy. The thing about a blog or column is that they are short, easily doable, and must be consistent. I can’t stop these posts as it would be a step backwards for sure. You should know I’ve also decided to take on the organization of a writer’s festival in a nearby city….so there you go. My lovely Twisted Writer Brain thinks it can do it all. Here’s the link: http://www.winecountrywritersfestival.ca
