We’re officially into the second half of 2020 and it’s time to start getting your work out there!
Do you have ideas for articles or perhaps a few short stories kicking around that you don’t know what to do with. Well, I’d like to introduce you to a couple of sites where the information is plentiful and maybe you can even make a couple of bucks.
The first is the private facebook group called Calls for Submission (Poetry, Fiction, Art.) Here’s the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/35517751475/ You’ll have to answer a few questions to join. Just push the join button and a request will be sent. This is a great resource to keep those creative juices running.
Another one is Cathy’s Comps and Calls http://compsandcalls.com/wp/ This is printed month by month so you can see the deadlines for any competitions and/or calls for submissions.
Now remember before just sending stuff off willy-nilly, a call for submission is often a request for ideas and pitches. You must pay attention to the submission guidelines. Don’t pull a rookie mistake and send the article already written. You need to be accepted and show that you’re the one who should write this article.
Prepare for rejection. It happens and it’s not personal. It’s part of doing business as a writer.
Make sure you keep a running log of who and what you’ve pitched–and the date sent. Check the guidelines to see if there is direction toward checking in–some say ok and others are a no.
If it’s a yes then a quick email (ensuring name/email/website/phone) are all on your signature: Hello. I submitted abc on X date and I have not received a response. If required, I could resend. Please advise. Respectfully…. If you don’t get a reply then assume your work isn’t for them, make a note of it, and move on.
Another really great site is Publishing… and Other Forms of Insanity https://publishedtodeath.blogspot.com/p/calls-for-submissions.html This website is a well of information. Go check it out.
Have fun with it. I wish you luck. Please let me know if you were successful. Don’t forget to subscribe.
