Auntie Says, My Twisted Writer Brain…

Open Markets, A Dog, A Hero, Mental Health, and so Much More…

Piper just being Piper. Always a smile…

It’s been a great week. Winter finally arrived here. It’s been so mild that many have been walking around in shorts and t-shirts. Well, that changed when the temperature plunged to below zero Celsius. Brrr…. We even got some snow. Don’t tell anyone but I’m glad we did. It’s so pretty and hey, I don’t have anywhere I need to be.

Piper say HEY! She’s my very patient and loyal golden retriever. She’s gentle–though she does have a pretty good bark and has scared a few. Silly puppy. Definitely a mama’s girl.

Piper has inadvertently become the mascot of the Week in Review posts because let’s face it, she’s a beauty and likes to smile for the camera. xoxo

And hey, if you’re a speculative fiction writer make sure you read to the bottom where there are some open markets specifically listed for you.

YAY BELLA!

I learned some of the significance behind ribbon skirts. I was reminded that there are strong and capable young women in this world who with some help will rise to take their rightful place as community leaders. Go Bella!

We need to remind ourselves about the nature of bullying whether on the playground, at home, and in our surrounding world. Check out the story here.

Bell’s Let’s Talk day…

Words matter, as do actions….those of others and our own. Check for more here and here. Always keep in mind that our mental health is part of our every day well-being. Start the conversation.

How did your writing go this week?

I know you’ll get your platform up and running as well as work on adding more of your personality to your work. Go forth and conquer. I believe in you.

It was a funny week for me, work wise. My office really—like seriously—needed to be cleaned up and rearranged. You know, since Covid began I’ve heaped stuff in my office without putting anything away–simply close the door and ignore. Heck there’s still Christmas happening over in one corner…yikes.

So, I’m hoping to be able to relax a little now that the office is sorta, kinda, back together. lol…

What is Speculative Fiction?

Did you see me in the Summit interviews with Traci Skuce? I have the video and will play it for you all again eventually. But the real reason I ask is that I made a statement that I began a project in the realm of Speculative Fiction and many were asking what the genre was all about..

Here’s a definition from Wikipedia. Some great speculative fiction: The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. The Martian by Andy Weir . Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. The list goes on….

Speculative fiction is a broad category of fiction encompassing genres with certain elements that are nonexistent in terms of reality, recorded history, or nature and the present universe, covering various themes in the context of the supernatural, futuristic, and many other imaginative topics.”

Wikipedia

It’s all about speculating–how fun is that? Let that imagination run wild.

Here is a list of open markets provided via Authors Publish Magazine. Let me know if you submit anything. That’d be really awesome btw. Some close very quickly so take a look now.

Thank you so much for stopping by.

  1. Love your dog Piper. We had a golden named Rusty who was a real character too. Once we came home to our acreage and he had tunneled out of his kennel. We looked everywhere and then remembered a new neighbour, a vet, had moved in a mile or so away. We drove over and asked if she’d seen him. “Yes, he’s in the garage, but he’s not feeling very well.” OMG she had done a vasectomy on him because he came to visit her girl dogs!! My husband was livid. Poor Rusty, his first time with the girls and bam!

    1. OMG!!! I would be furious too. Wow….poor puppy and sucky lesson for Rusty. On a lighter note, Thanks for stopping by Rosalie. So appreciate it. I’m gonna go give Piper a hug….lol xo
